Shameful.
This is an O@CH* that we at WME had to take some time to verify, it's just so shocking. When we heard it the first time, it was simply not believable. But apoplexy is commonplace when you focus on Ron Littlefield for very long.
In a recent interview with a local publication about Littlefield’s unwise decision to cease future planning for our community’s business hub—downtown—and more to the point his vendetta against the extremely likeable and gobsmackingly brilliant Stroud Watson, Ron Littlefield compared Watson and the design studio staff to Nazis.
WTF?!?
Mayoral spinmeister (and genuinely good guy) Todd Womack was trying to shove the words back in Littlefield’s mouth as soon as they were spoken, to no avail.
How have we come to the place where the grisly extermination of 6 million human lives means so little that it's used by the leader of our city as a metaphor in a petty vendetta of jealousy?
OK, Just in case there are some readers who are unfamiliar with the players here, consider the following:
Obviously, no decent person would make so sickening a comparison. Anyone, including Littlefield, would regret saying something so appalling, and apologize. So let’s assume he will.
But what is truly worrisome here is that our mayor has such poor judgment. Flippancy of this sort is just not acceptable for the mayor of our city—any city.
Ron has always envied the well-deserved respect that Stroud receives. Stroud Watson is literally recognized around the world for the brilliant ways that he breathes life into a city through thoughtful design. He’s earned every accolade he has received. Ron Littlefield just isn't playing in the same league and the knowledge of that causes him to behave quite badly.
You heard it here first, but we suspect you’ll hear it elsewhere soon.
