Happy Ronniversary To Us!
Yes, it's been exactly one year since our first post. As the staff of Ron Littlefield: Worst. Mayor. Ever. sat down today to contemplate our first year, it was with a sense of sadness for what should have been.
Yes, we ate ourselves sick on the Happy Ronniversary cake, but it was slim comfort. We should have been enjoying exciting new job prospects and civic harmony with our intelligent, hard-working, future-focused new mayor. Instead, we got Ron "Hissy-Fit" Littlefield. *sigh*
The champagne was bubbly, but its effervescence could not lift our spirits. We should have been marveling at the plans for the awesome new development on the Southside or Riverfront or Brainerd that our new mayor had lured to our city. Instead, we get the Homeless Hilton and self-congratulatory press releases (see "City of Chattanooga Goes Above and Beyond to Keep Public Housing Cool" chattanooga.gov 8/2/06. Seriously, read that piece of crap. Ron's need to degrade those whom better mayors have seen as partners is unprofessional and apparently unquenchable, not to mention very damaging to the public process of service delivery to lower income residents. Such poor judgment. Is there no one to put Ron's petulance in 'time out' when he has the urge to lash out so foolishly? Oh, how we miss SuperTodd). *sniff* *tear*
So while we lament that forward progress on the great work of revitalizing our city has come to a standstill, we can only hope that the hard work of previous mayors has cleared a path wide enough for the private sector to move forward on its own until we can get another hard-working, city-savvy mayor in office to continue the public/private partnership working toward making Chattanooga the best small city in the US of A.
*Wipes snotty face on well-worn Corker For Mayor t-shirt* Well, there's no time for tears; we've got fresh snark to produce in year two. We pledge to continue to mirror the tactics that Littlefield and his minions used to slime their way into power. Which means, you can look forward to more earth-scorching rhetoric and well, just about anything else, no matter how low-down, right Ron? Right Dale? Right Al? Right Paul?
A final thought. A frequent e-mailer sent this. Originally, we thought it was a bit over the top (which, for us, is saying something. I mean, hello, hyperbole is our stock in trade). But at it's heart, this website really is quite serious. The nastiness that Ron Littlefield employs as his stock in trade has damaged our city. In light of this comment, it is not enough to silently wait out four years:
"Where there is a lack of honor in government, the morals of the whole people are poisoned."
Uh. Cheers.

Ron Littlefield is a Vicious Bastard
Hey, Somebody had to say it. Sunday's Times Free Press had two items that illustrate my point rather bluntly.
First, Rev. Bernie Miller revealed that he thought that Littlefield took a shot at the Housing Authority, of which Bernie is the board chair, the day before the election to punish him for switching from the Democratic to the Republican Party and alter the election. Truth is, Greg Beck had that race won a month ago, but Ron's comments were, of course, meant to sink Bernie.
Bernie went on to say that he didn't want to be branded a 'suicide bomber' and a radical like Rob Healy. The Reverend should be thankful he wasn't labeled an atheist. Don't laugh, Ron's done it before. Now, I'm no fan of Bernie, if only because I'm sick of lame politicos switching parties because they think their county map is turning from Blue to Red. It's cowardly and pathetic and everything bad about politics. (Yes Curtis, I'm looking at you.) However, I think it should be noted that everyone involved in the city knows that Ron is going to throw you under the bus if you cross him in any way whatsoever. I loved that Bernie actually used the term 'thrown under the bus.'
MichMich, the city's third most over-payed public servant (Hi, Dan! Hi, Missy!) said we'd 'see some movement' on this soon. Yay! More instability at City Hall! What a rock solid leader Ron Littlefield is. *pause* Not.
Second, Ron had the gall to try to poison Merri Mai Williamson's report to city council about her trip to other cities to visit their homeless complexes. Ron said that he could 'give her report for her' because she was prejudiced against the homeless complex.
GAH! Ron Littlefield is an Arrogant Bastard!
Ms. Williamson happens to live in the MLK neighborhood. And she is a well-respected businesswoman in Chattanooga. She went to the trouble to visit other cities firsthand--rather than just whine and complain about the homeless in her backyard--to see if these kinds of complexes can work in conjunction with a residential neighborhood and Ron Littlefield doesn't have the decency to wait and see what she has to say?!? Bastard!
For all he knows, she could have seen that they work quite nicely and really add to a neighborhood. Or maybe they have no real effect. Or maybe it's a freaking nightmare. Either way, let's wait and see what this informed, involved citizen has to say. Ron's political instincts are so bad he thinks he can sway opinion by getting out in front of her report (his political instincts pretty much run to the anonymous leaflet dropped at night in church parking lots, but whatev). What he didn't factor in is that Merri Mai Williamson has something Ron Littlefield has never had--credibility. The council will listen to her because they respect her. In fact, they are probably just about sick of being pushed around by this rudderless, floundering administration.
Ms. Williamson is respected by many in this town. So was Rob Healy. For that matter, so is Rev. Party Switcher. Ron's pathological need to bury everyone who disagrees with him under such a massive load of vicious rhetoric will, nay, is catching up with him. MichMich, you better dig deep into your vast--acres wide, inches deep--public relations experience, rein in Ron and come up with some kind of public message that doesn't make your boss look like such an effing bitch every time someone disagrees with him.
No doubt about it: Ron Littlefield is the Worst. Mayor. Eh-ver.
